DotNetNuke is a Content Management Framework
DotNetNuke (DNN) is based on Microsoft's .NET technology. DNN offers a robust, extensible and fully functional framework for web development. DNN is ideal for creating, deploying and managing interactive web sites and it is designed to make it easy for administrators, content editors, developers, and designers to manage all aspects of their web assets. DotNetNuke utilizes ASP.NET 2.0, Visual Studio, SQL Server, Windows Server, and IIS technologies.
The Shared DNN Environment
Shared Web Hosting provides both TEST and PRODUCTION environments for state entities to develop their DNN websites. The DNN hosting environment differs from the shared hosting services environment in that DNN-based websites are updated through a web-based admin console, not via FTP access to a server. As a result, agencies will need to obtain web-based DNN administrator accounts instead of FTP accounts The other diference is that the DNN servers are not load balanced, like the traditional shared hosting servers.
Hosted DNN-based websites draw their content from from a SQLServer database, and display that content it in a pre-determined layout (or “skin”) in a Web browser. We will work with you to build a skin that complies with Statewide Web Standards hosting customers with the different layout of the website which is compliant to the Executive Branch Cabinet Agency Web Site Standardization (.pdf)
Updating DNN-based websites requires extra care, because DNN does not provide workflow or an approval process for website changes. Since DNN updates are immediately viewable for the public, there is a risk of content being published that has not been approved. For this reason, agencies are responsible for implementing their own workflow or approval process outside of the DNN admin console.
